PPG CARERS EVENT – Thursday, 06/06/19

held at St. Saviour’s Surgery

PPG Carers Event Jun 2019

PPG Carers Event held on 06/06/19 – from left: Kim Terry Worcestershire Association of Carers, Helene Garnett Practice Manager, Val Durnall PPG member

The Practice invited all patients who are carers to an evening event hosted by our Patient Participation Group (PPG) on Thursday, 6th June 2019. Kim Terry of Worcestershire Association of Carers (WAC) attended and gave a talk on the wide ranging support services available to carers as well as free training courses that are run on a number of subjects including Caring with Confidence, Legal and Financial Workshops and Falls, Fractures and Frailty Workshop. Kim also spoke about the Carers Emergency Card Scheme which is a card the carer carries in case they have an accident or are taken ill, and the information on the card informs people that someone is depending on that carer.  WAC newsletters were also given out along with additional leaflets.

The event gave all those who attended the chance to listen and learn more about all the support services available to them and to share their own experiences. Some who attended said they felt ‘less alone’ at the end of the evening and had found the event to be extremely informative and useful.

PPG members Val Durnall and Jeremy Roberson hosted the event along with our Practice Manager, Helene Garnett. Val and Jeremy explained the function of the PPG and invited anyone interested to join the group and attend 4 meetings per year to support the Practice and offer advice and guidance from a patient perspective.  To date, we have one Carer who has taken up the opportunity and joined the group.

We are planning to hold the next event on Thursday, 24th October and would ask all people who care for someone to keep a note of the date in their diary.
